From: Email from Ted Smith to Sackett mailing list 4 Apr 2015 While looking for more information about Elizabeth Stanford Sackett (1898-2002), wife of Rear Admiral Earl LeRoy Sackett (1897-1970), I came across an entry in Army-Navy-Air Force Register and Defense Times, vol. 72: SACKETT--At Norfolk, Va., August 11, 1922, to Ensign Earl LeRoy Sackett, U. S. Navy, and Mrs. Sackett a daughter Maidie Mason; granddaughter of Captain H. R. Stanford, C. E. C, U. S. Navy and Mrs. Stanford. In Washington Social Register, December 1921, p. 144: Stanford Miss Elizabeth L (Homer R) . . . Married Jun 1 Sackett Mr Earl LeRoy-USN . . . at Hampton Roads Va. Stanford, Captain & Mrs Homer R (Maidie Mason) USN. An.Cvc.Ann.Uvp.Wash'88 Stanford, Mr. Carrington M*--at SanFran . . . Ensign& Mrs E LeRoy Sackett (Elizabeth L Stanford) USN All of the preceding three lines are indicated as being at Phone No 1000, Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, VA This confirms that Stanford was her maiden name, not a middle name. In Notable Southern Families, vol. 2, p. 186, is a discussion of the family of John Houston and Sarah Todd. Rather deep in that section it mentions that "Maria (sic) B. Mason above, married ---------- Stanford of U.S. Navy and has two children: Eliza Stanford Sackett and Carrington Stanford.
