Florence Updike, 87, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007.
Memorial celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with Dr. Kyle Reese, great-nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Borger.
Florence was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Childress, where she was raised. She married O.E. "Slim" Updike in 1939, and together they moved to Borger after World War II. While in Borger, she worked for Claude Robinson Construction Co. as a secretary. They had also lived in Fritch prior to her moving to Amarillo in 1987 after her husband's passing. Florence was very independent person who loved her family very much. Her dogs also held a special place in her life. She enjoyed bowling and square dancing.
Florence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors left to cherish her memories are three nieces, Jo Della Reese of Valley Mill, Chesta Ann Bailey of Lincoln, Neb., and Joyce Kohler of Houston; a nephew, Kenneth Updike of Reno, Nev.; and two great-nephews, Jeff Reese of Amarillo and Dr. Kyle Reese of Jacksonville, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Amarillo animal shelter, 3501 S. Osage St., Amarillo, TX 79103.

O.E. "Slim" Updike, 77, 609 S. Cornell, Fritch, died Monday evening in Golden Plains Community Hospital.
A retired gauger at Phillips refinery, he was a native of Humboldt, Kansas, and an area resident for 41 years.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fritch.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; three brothers, Ralph of Chanute, Kansas, Sam of Sweeny, and Edwin of Gilbert, Arizona.
Oliver Updike and Florence Kimbrough were married June 14, 1942, in Pampa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains, with Rev. Eddie Marcum, pastor, First United Methodist Church of Fritch, officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Home.
