      Merle E. Finkenbinder

      ODELL -- Merle E. Finkenbinder, 70, of R.R. 2, Odell, died at 11:42 p.m. Thursday (March 9, 2000) at OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev. Keith Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Camp Esmen Cemetery, Odell. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

      Memorials may be made to OSF Saint James Hospital Building Fund.

      Mr. Finkenbinder was born Oct. 2, 1929, at Rooks Creek Township, a son of J. Raymond and Hilda Schroeder Finkenbinder. He married Arlene E. Palm on June 25, 1950, in Pontiac. She died April 18, 1992. Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Steve) Stenger, Bloomington; five sons, Steven M. (Kathy) Finkenbinder, Alan R. (Liane) Finkenbinder, and Daniel A. (Kristy) Finkenbinder, all of Pontiac; Timothy J. ( Josy) Finkenbinder, Collinsville, Texas; and David L. Finkenbinder, Chicago; one brother, Eldon Finkenbinder, Pontiac; one sister, Dorothy Fitzpatrick, Pontiac; and 12 grandchildren.

      Also surviving is his special friend, Mary Frances Gambardella.

      He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Finkenbinder.

      Mr. Finkenbinder was educated in Cornell schools and graduated from Cornell High School. He had farmed in rural Odell, and had retired from Illinois Department of Transportation in January 1992.

      Mr. Finkenbinder was a member of the American Paint Horse Association, Quarter Horse Association and the Threshermen's Reunion Association.
