Richard A. Fox Sr.
HARDIN - Richard A. Fox Sr, 77, longtime Hardin area resident, died early Tuesday morning, May 14, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Fred C. and Grace O'Malley Fox. Rich grew up in Salt Lake and attended West High School and in 1931 was named the Utah state high school violin champion. After his graduation, he attended the University of Utah, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering in 1937.
Rich was an engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Co. from 1937-1941, until he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army in 1941. While in the Army, he worked as an engineer in the office of chief of ordnance at the Pentagon in Washington. He MR. FOX designed the first snowmobile.
He married Roberta M. Kennedy on July 27, 1940, in Peoria, ILL. The couple made their home in Hardin.
Rich moved to Hardin in 1946 and formed the Fox Oil Co. with his two brothers, K.F. Fox and CO. Lundberg, later forming the Triangle Motor Co. in 1949. He served as president of the company until retiring due to ill health in 1986.
He was an active person who enjoyed music. He was past president and charter member of the Billings Symphony Society, playing violin in the symphony for over 35 years. He was past master of the St. John's Lodge No. 92 AF & AM, past commander of the American Legion Post No. 8, past president of the Hardin Kiwanis Club, a member of the Al Bedoo Shrine Temple and served as the drum major for the Brass Band, a member of the Royal Arch Masonic Chapter No. 37, Knights Templar Aldemar Commandry No. 5, Big Horn Shrine Club, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and Big Horn County Rod and Gun Club.
Rich was a faithful member of the Hardin First Congregational Church.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta of Hardin; five sons, Richard Jr. of Grand Forks, N.D, Michael of Hardin, Steven of Moscow, Idaho, Dennis of Hardin and Timothy of Billings; an adopted son, Vasek "Paul" Karas of Kirkland, Wash; a brother, C.O. Lundberg of Hardin; a sister, Mrs. Grace Brady of St. George, Utah; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Congregational Church of Hardin with Rev. Bill Tibbs officiating. Private interment of ashes will follow in the Fairview Cemetery with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin in charge of arrangements. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Fox Sr. Music Scholarship Fund, c/o First Interstate Bank, Hardin, Mont. 59034.

Roberta Kennedy Fox
HARDIN -- Roberta Kennedy Fox, 75, of Hardin, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, 1993, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born April 27, 1918, at her grandfather's farm in Green County, Ill., a daughter of Basil G. and Lillie C. Kennedy. Roberta grew up tn White Hall, Ill. She attended White Hall High School, graduating in 1936, as salutatorian. After high school she attended Peoria School of business, graduating In 1939. It was while tn Peoria, Ill., that she met her future husband, Richard A. Fox. They were married in Peoria on July 27, 1940. The couple moved to Washington, D.C., during World War II, while Rich served his country as an Army officer.
Roberta moved to Hardin in 1946, and formed the Fox Oil Company Partnership with her husband and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Lil Fox, and Chick and Virginia Lundberg. She remained a partner until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991.
She was a loving, caring mother who was very much devoted to her family. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and her presence in their lives will be greatly missed. Books were a joy in her life and she loved to read. She also loved to collect antiques.
Roberta was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Hardin Senior Citizens and Chapter L, PEO.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Jr. of Vermillion, S.D., Michael of Lakewood, Colo., Steven of Bozeman, Dennis and his wife, Janet, of Hardin, Timothy and his wife, Mary Jo, of Billings, and Paul Karas and his wife, Valerie, of Kirkland, Wash.; her sister, Doris McKenzie of Brighton, Mo.; her brother, Austin Kennedy of Holly HilL Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Nora, Sean, Susan, Kirk, Patrick, Michael and Caroline.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the First Congregational Church of Hardin with Rev. Bill Tibbs officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin entrusted with the arrangements.
