W. I. Sackett Is Taken by Death
W. I. Sackett, 80, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday at a Nampa nursing home.
He was born Sept. 13, 1884, at Chetopa, Kans. He was organizer of the Bean Growers association and a retired farmer and stockman. He came to Twin Falls in 1907 from Kansas, and served on the school board and was a former chairman here.
He was a member of the Twin Falls IOOF lodge. He married Birdie Mae Holslngton, May 8, 1907, at Anson, Kans.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Vera Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Melvin Sackett, Twin Falls, and LaVern Sackett, Taos, N. M., and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in White mortuary chapel by the Rev. Henry Gernhardt. Concluding rites will b3 held at Sunset Memorial park.

Melvin E. Sackett, 87, of Idaho Falls, died May 21, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.
He was born Sept. 8, 1910, in Wichita, Kan., to William and Birdie Mae Hoisington Sackett. He grew up and attended schools in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelor's of science degree in mining engineering. While at the university he was a prominent football player and also a Golden Gloves Boxer.
On April 24, 1942, he married Mary Gillespie in Veradale, Wash. They lived near Twin Falls where he owned and operated a farm.
He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, the SAF fraternity and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, reading and geology.
Survivors include his children, Marilee (husband, Truman) Kohtz of Nampa and John (wife, Karen) Sackett of Idaho Falls; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sackett, in 1968; a brother, Verne and a sister, Vera.
Private family services were held May 23, 1998, at Coltrin Colonial Mortuary. The body was cremated.

Mary Alice Sackett, 92, died in Taos on April 19, 2008. She was born in Dawson, NM on January 04, 1916 to Donald and Adelaide Secrest. She was a graduate of Dawson High School and the University of Denver. She taught school in Santa Fe for five years before marrying Vern Sackett in 1941 here in Taos. Following the WWII years, the couple made Taos their permanent home in 1947. Mrs. Sackett was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Santa Fe Chapter #19 and served as Worthy Grand Matron of NM 1969-1990. She and her husband owned and operated three businesses in Taos: The Album Photo Shop, The Final Touch Frame Shop and Mr. Sackett's Surveying Business. She was a member of El Pueblito United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Mr. Sackett died in 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Svoboda, her son in law, Grady of Albuquerque and her granddaughter, Piama of Olomouc, Czech Republic, a niece, Katie Ugrin of Lake Forest, CA and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10 AM at El Pueblito Methodist Church. Gifts may be made to the Benevolent Fund, Grand Chapter OES, c/o Grand Treasurer, Box 52, Hatch, NM 87937 or El Pueblito United Methodist Church, Taos. Arrangements by Rivera Family Mortuaries.
