Sackett-Abbott Wedding At St. Mark's Church Brilliant
Daughter of President First National Bank Becomes
Bride of Prominent Automobile Man of Detroit
A Prominent wedding in St. Mark's Episcopal church, October tenth, 1916 was that of Miss Helen Katharine Abbott, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Edmund Abbott and Ray Carleton Sackett of Detroit, Michigan, only son of J. R. Sackett of Saginaw, Michigan.
Yellow and green were adopted by the bride as a color scheme for her wedding. Smilax, palms and gorgeous yellow chysanthemums[sic] were used in decorating the beautiful church which was filled to its utmost capacity.
For a half hour preceding the wedding, a program of exquisite nuptial music was given by Mrs. Harold Vaughan, organist, assisted by Mrs. Donald Forsyth, violinist.
Promptly at half after eight the music swung into the wedding march from Luhengrin, announcing the approach of the bridal party. Firs came the four ushers, followed by the bridesmaids of equal number and lastly, the beauteous bride on the arm of her father, by whom she was given in marriage. They were met at the chancel by the groom and his best man, Mr. Joseph Burge of Louisville, Kentucky. The groom and best man are alumni of the University of Michigan of the class of 1911, and are both members of the Trigon fraternity.
The bride wore a short gown of ivory bridal satin, with a long court train, chiffon lined, which suspended from the shoulders. the full length sleeves were of net and the neck of the lovely dress was cut round and draped with rare point lace. Her veil of telle fastened to her hair ball with a band of fragrant orange blossoms fell from a frilled cap to the bottom of the train. She carried a shower of orchids and lillies of the valley and her only ornament worn was a platinum set brooch of sapphires and diamonds.
The bridesmaids, who were Miss Margaret Burdick, Miss Kathryn Boyd, Miss Frances Bristol and Miss Mildred Sterling, were all frocked in charming toilettes of yellow with garden hats of pale yellow tulle and they carried shepherd crooks topped with large bouquets of Ophelia roses.
The ushers were Mesers. Clement Quinn of Saginaw, Michigan, Mr. Ray Smith, Mr. Carey Abbot, brother of the bride, and Mr. E. L. Barrows of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Rev. S. Arthur Huston, rector of St. Mark's, was the officiating clergyman.
Soft music was rendered throughout the solemnization of the wedding and when the nuptial blessing had been pronounced, the happy couple left the church to the joyous strains of Mendelssohn.
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Hotel Plains, with a wedding supper and dance, the festivities continuing until midnight.
Just before leaving the Plains Mrs. Sackett threw her bridal bouquet which was caught by Miss Mildred McIntosh of Cheyenne.
Mr. and Mrs. Sackett departed at midnight for the west and south. the honeymoon will be spent in Cuba and Panama and after December the first, they will be at home to their friends at 171 Elmhurst Avenue, Detroit, Michigan where the groom is employed by the Studebaker company and has a home in readiness for his bride.
