Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, at South Park Cemetery for Bettie Ruth Hamilton, 84, who passed away April 14, 2010, at home of natural causes. Brother Wendell Wakefield will officiate. Bettie will be buried beside her beloved husband, Paul, who preceded her in death last year.
Bettie was born in Kingman, Ariz., on May 3, 1925, to James Ellis and Nellie Edna (Stuart) Neighbors, who preceded her in death. Bettie and her family moved to Roswell in 1937, where she attended and graduated from Roswell High School in 1944.
In 1949, Bettie married Paul Hamilton in Roswell. Bettie and Paul enjoyed going fishing and traveling locally and around the country visiting family. Bettie worked at Thiokol Corp. and as a bookkeeper for Smith Machinery before retiring to work with the family business Hamilton Pumping Services. She was also a strong advocate for the rights of children and adults with developmental challenges.
Bettie enjoyed working on family genealogy of the Stuart, Neighbors, Hamilton and Sackett families, collecting valuable family history and pictures for future generations to enjoy. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Bettie also canned home-grown fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and her chocolate pie and pecan pie will be greatly missed. Bettie always looked forward to family coming to visit for an hour, overnight or an extended stay, whichever, they were always welcome.
Her older sister, Laura Edna Martin, preceded her in death. She is survived by her older brother, L. B. Neighbors, and his wife, Francis, of Mobile, Ala., her younger sister, Mary Louise Galyon, of Philadelphia, Tenn., and her sister-in-law, Jesse Hamilton, of Yuma, Ariz.
Bettie is also survived by her sons, Ronnie Hamilton and Mark Hamilton, and his wife, Shari, all of Roswell; her granddaughter, Tedi Hamilton-Wold, and her husband, Bryan; great-granddaughter, Kyra Gross, and great-grandson, Kaylyn (Bubba) Gross, all of Pueblo, Colo., great-grandson, Jordan Hamilton, and cousin, Betty Shoup, and husband, Tommy, all of Roswell. Bettie is also survived by several generations of beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Bettie's loving care providers, Tammy Stewart and LaShondra Allen. They would also like to thank Dr. Jane Gilbreth and the Vista Care Hospice team for their care, time and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tobosa Developmental Services.

A graveside funeral service has been scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009, at South Park Cemetery, for Paul Hamilton, 83, of Roswell, who passed away March 17, 2009, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Wendle Wakefield will officiate.
Paul was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Luther Cecil Hamilton and Callie Sackett Hamilton.
On April 9, 1949, he married Bettie Ruth Neighbors in Roswell. She survives him at the family home.
Paul was a welder by trade, but a farmer at heart. He loved to plant flowers and vegetables in his garden. He was a very active man. He enjoyed building things, and fishing. Paul served his country during World War II in the Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations on the USS Lunga Point aircraft carrier. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Callie; his brothers, Bobb Hamilton, and Jack Hamilton; his sisters, Charlye Carr, Bonnie Hamilton and Dixie Nell Howard.
His survivors include his sons, Ronald Paul Hamilton, and Mark Hamilton and Mark's wife, Shari, all of Roswell; his granddaughter, Tedi Hamilton-Wold of Pueblo, Colo.; and his great-grandchildren, Kyra, Kaylyn and Jordan.
Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to the Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey St., Roswell, NM 88203, or Tobosa Developmental Services 110 E. Summit St. Roswell, NM 88203.
