Daily Independent Journal (San Rafael, California), 11 Aug 1975, Page 4 Dr. Norman Freeman, Noted Vascular Surgeon Memorial service for Dr. Norman A. Freeman, a 30-year resident of Mill Valley and a vascular surgeon at several San Francisco hospitals, will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Mill Valley Community Church. Freeman, 72, died of a heart attack Saturday while hospitalized during a vacation trip, according to a friend of the family. Freeman was born in Cape May, N.J., and reared in Philadelphia. He went to Yale University and Yale Medical School and went on to become a National Research Council Fellow at Harvard University. He also was a resident at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor of surgery at Harvard. During World War II he served as a lieutenant colonel with the 20th General Hospital in India. He came to Mill Valley after World War II and became well known as a vascular surgeon on the West Coast. He practiced at the University of California Medical Center, the Pacific Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Franklin Hospital in San Francisco. He published 100 papers and reports in various journals and belonged to the American Society of Vascular Surgery, the American Surgical Association, the American Physiological Society and the American Heart Association. He retired in 1962. For many years he lived in the Molino Avenue area of Mill Valley and recently had moved to the Redwoods retirement center. He was a 20-year member of the Mill Valley Community Church. Survivors include his former wife, Charlotte Hume Freeman of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; a son, Dr. David N. Freeman of Newtown Square, Pa.; three daughters, Dr. Nancy F. Regalado of New York City, Corinne Smith and Marjorie Shroyer, both of New Orleans; and three brothers and two sisters, all in Pennsylvania. A second memorial service will be held Aug. 30 in the Brvn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr. Burial will be in Philadelphia.
