      Warren S. Hunsberger, 86, an Asia scholar, developmental economist and longtime professor at American University's School of International Service, died Dec. 22 at Georgetown University Hospital.

      Dr. Hunsberger, who had cancer, died of a cerebral hemorrhage he had suffered after a fall earlier that day in his Washington home.

      An authority on Japan, he had co-written and edited the book "Japan's Quest," which was published this year. He also was the author of "Japan and the United States in World Trade," which was published by the Council on Foreign Relations in 1964. The book was still in use in the 1990s and has been called a classic.

      Dr. Hunsberger joined the American University faculty in 1960, then served from 1963 to 1966 as a Ford Foundation economist in Malaysia, where he worked on development planning. He then returned to AU, where he taught courses in international economics and economic development. He retired from the university in 1976 as director of its Center for Asian Studies.

      Washington, April 17--Miss Ruth Helen Pedersen, daughter of Mrs. Nils Pedersen of New York, was married here today to Lieutenant (J.G.) Warren Seabury Hunsberger, U.S.N.R., son of Dr. and Mrs. Byron Keyser Hunsberger of Norristoen, Pa. The ceremony was performed in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany by the Rev. Charles W. Sheerin.

      The bride, an associate research analyst in the War Department, formerly was with the Rockefeller Foundation in New York. She was graduated from Antioch College.

      Lieutenant Hunsberger, an alumnus of Yale and of its Graduate School, is on duty here with the Board of Economic Warfare.

      Lieutenant and Mrs. Hunsberger will make their home in Washington.
