  • Notes
    • Josiah Sackett resided for several years previous to his death at New Milford, Conn. He married about 1650 [sic 1750] a Miss Douglass whose mother is supposed to have been a sister of Col. Philip Skeen, of Albany County, N. Y. Mr. Sackett and his wife died several years previous to the commencement of the war of the Revolution, and their orphan children were distributed among their mother's people. [Weygant, p. 113]
      ------
Note: Weygant has two children listed, Prime and ____, who are of an uncertain sex:
      726. Prime Sackett.
      728. ______ Sackett.
      ------
NOTE: It appears that Weygant was in error concerning Richard Sackett having a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. In his will dated 14 Dec 1744 Richard Sackett names his wife Margery Sacket, sons Richard Sacket, John Sacket, deceased daughter Mary Dean, daughter Catherine Margeson and "my welbeloved son Josiah Crego." Each time he mentions his sons Richard and John he uses their SACKET surname. But Josiah Crego is not mentioned as a SACKET so it appears that Josiah Crego was Margery's son by her 1st marriage, to Stephen Crego. Therefore, Josiah Crego was Richard's step son.
This leaves us with the problem of trying to determine who were the parents of the children Weygant listed as belonging to "Josiah Crego Sackett." - [Thurmon King]
