      Mrs. Bertha B. Gardner, 90, of Memphis, died Saturday at a Memphis hospital. She had lived in Kansas City about 45 years ago. Surviving are a brother, R. E. Bonney, Edmonds, Wash., and two sisters, Mrs. T. D, Lyons, 6321 Hagerwood, and Mrs. Raymond M. Wolfe, Washington. Private services will be held Tuesday morning at the graveside in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call after 7 o'clock tonight at the Blackman chapel.

      Robert Earl Bonney, 84

      Robert Earl Bonney, 84, retired Navy lieutenant and winner of the Medal of Honor, died yesterday after a long illness. He resided at 17508 71st Place W., Edmonds.

      Military funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Becks Chapel, Edmonds. Burial will be in Acacia.

      Mr. Bonney was in the Navy more than 40 years, during which he saw service in the Spanish-American War and World Wars I and II. He also held medals for service in Nicaragua and the Mexican Border conflict.

      Mr. Bonney won the nation's highest honor for exceptional heroism in 1909 aboard the destroyer Hopkins at Coronado, Calif., when he rescued two men in a boiler-room explosion.

      Mr. Bonney first retired as a chief petty officer in 1931. He went back into the Navy in World War II, serving as an inspector in shipyards here much of the time.

      Mr. Bonney was born in Maryville, Tenn. He had made his home in Edmonds since 1924. He was a Mason and member of the American Legion, Edmonds; Knights Templar, Everett, and Seattle Fleet Reserve Association. His wife, Floyd, died last year.

      Survivors are a son, Robert E. Bonney, Jr., Springfield, Ore., and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Wolfe, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Abbie Lyons, Kansas City, Mo.
