  • Notes
    • From Connell O'Donovan:
      I am 95% positive that Ruhamah Lyman was the daughter of Samuel Lyman (1756-1850) and Ruhamah Allen. Samuel was a Rev. War soldier in 1778, in Capt. Pomeroy's company, Col. Chapman's regiment, under Brig. Gen. John Tyler; engaged in attempt to dislodge the British at Newport.

      Samuel was born in Glastonbury CT about 1755 or 6. He married
      Ruhamah Allen on December 3, 1778 in Bolton, Tolland, CT. I believe
      their eldest child was Ruhamah Lyman, born abt. 1780. The 1790
      Census of Westfield MA shows that Samuel Lyman already had three
      daughters by that year (and two sons), and I'm quite sure Ruhamah was
      the eldest one.

      Samuel Lyman died in Hinsdale, MA on November 9, 1850. (Death record inaccurately gave his name as Joseph Lyman, who was in fact his oldest son - and likely the informant for the death record - per the
      1850 census of Hinsdale, Samuel was then living with son Joseph;
      Samuel died of "old age" at the age of 94, vol. 48, p. 28.)
