      Vance, Paul

      Paul Vance age 91, Hortonville, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton. He was born on April 20, 1926 in Leatha, (Magoffin County), KY, son of the late Columbus and Virgie (Engle) Vance. Paul was the third son of four, with brothers, George, Elmo and Fred (all now deceased). His sister Billie Jo (Glen) Bohlmann, New London.

      Paul attended Summit Grade School and graduated from Boyd County High School, Cannonsburg, KY in 1944. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and took basic training at Paris Island, SC. He served in the Pacific Theater, WWII, seeing action on Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Yokosuka in Japan. After service Paul worked for the C&O Railroad and took leave of absence to help his mother where she had relocated to a farm in new London, WI.

      In 1954, he met and married Shirley Schilleman in New London. They've made their home in Hortonville, the past 63 years. They have three children, Charlie (Debbie) Tennessee; Sara Vance, Menasha; and Andy (Lori) Vance, Appleton; four grandchildren and a sister in-law, Lois Vance, California.

      Paul spent the next years as an Operating Engineer on road construction and seasonal Dept. of Natural Resources Warden and sixteen years as a foreman for Deans Foods Company, before retiring in 1993.

      He enjoyed moose hunting in Canada, bear and deer hunting and trapping in Northern, WI. He was still bear hunting in Hayward at 90! He hunted deer and wild turkey at home. Vance has been a member of the Wisconsin Federation of Wildlife for the past 29 years. He maintained a big garden and strawberry bed and ran a set-line for catfish on the Wolf River. Paul is a descendant of the Abner Vance line and a long-time member of the Vance Family Association and the veteran's service.

      Funeral services for Vance will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.

      The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at FVHO, especially Jennifer Giebel and the 7th floor staff at ThedaCare, Appleton and Dr. Fors, Urologist.

      In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

      Age 90, passed away Thursday October 25, 1990 at her residence after a lingering illness. She was born June 29, 1900 in Perry County, Kentucky. She had been a resident of New London since 1949 and was employed at the Larsen Company and Hortonville Manufacturing in Hortonville for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, New London, the VFW Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors. She married Columbus Vance in 1916 and Robert Magedanz in 1949. She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: George and Imogene Vance, Sierra Vista, Arizona; Elmo and Lois Vance, Torrance, California; Paul and Shirley Vance, Hortonville; Fred Vance, New London; a daughter, Billie Jo LeBeau, New London; a special grandson, Paul E. Vance, Denver, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus in 1974 and Robert in 1972. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 1 a.m. from the Cline Hanson Funeral Home, New London with Rev. David Brice officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 until 9 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

      Shirley Schilleman, Paul Vance to Many At New London Church

      The First Congregational church at New London will be the setting for the marriage of Miss Shirley Ann Schilleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harrv A. Schilleman, 2U0 1/2 High street, Neenah, former New London residents, and Paul Vance at 8 o'clock thsi evening. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Robert Magedanz, New London, and F. C. Vance, Ashland, Ky. The single ring rites will be performed by the Rev. Edward Beatty. The bride will be given in marriage by her father. Mrs. Russell Thiede will sing "I Love Thee," during the ceremony.

      Miss Alice Sawyer, Waukesha, will be the maid of honor, while best man will be Charles Wightman, Fond du Lac. Bridal aid will be Miss Billie Jo Vance, New London, sister of the bridegroom. James Schilleman, Neenah, brother of the bride, will serve as groomsman. Ushering duties will be shared by Arnold Hedtke and James Monsour, both of New London.

      Two hundred guests will attend a reception after the service in the church parlors. After a short wedding trip, the couple will live at route I, New London.

      The bride is a graduate of Washington High school. New London, and attended Carroll college, Waukesha where she was affiliated with Delta Zeta sorority, She is employed at the Zernicke Studio, Neenah.

      The bridegroom was graduated from Boyd County High school in Kentucky and attended Morehead State college, Morehead, Ky. He is a construction worker for the Runyon Construction Company, Fond du Lac, and is a veteran of the second world war and the Korean war.
