      DORTHE M. CHILCUTT

      age 89, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, April 18,2004 at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee. Born January 29, 1915 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mrs. Chilcutt, formerly of Key West, had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1963. Holding a BS and MS in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin, Dorthe taught art in the Okeechobee County Public Schools until she retired in 1987. She continued to teach adult art classes for Indian River Community College. She was known, respected and loved by several generations of Okeechobee students as a caring and wise teacher. In addition, Dorthe was a world renown artist tor her watercolors and other works of art . She was listed in Who's Who in American Education 1994, Who's Who In American Women 1995-96, and Who's Who in the World 1995-96. She had begun work toward a Doctorate Degree from the New York University and had travelled (sic) extensively in Europe on many painting trips.

      The award-winning artist was a member of the Florida Water Colorist, the American Water Colorist, a charter member of the Key West Art Society, and the Ft. Pierce Art Gallery, now known as the Bennie Backus Gallery. Additionally, she was a member of many other art associations and organizations throughout the state and country. Her passion for art and inspiring the appreciation of it to others, remained as one of her life's goals. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member and organist of the Christian Science Society.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Booth Chilcutt and five brothers. Survivors include four children: Booth (Peggy) Chilcutt, Jr., of Sumter, South Carolina, Karen (David) Hulett of Coral Springs, Cindy Underhill of Okeechobee and Debbie Flippo of Orlando; grandsons: Michael Chilcutt of Sumter, SC, Jiml Hulett of St. Petersburg, Peter Chilcutt of Sacramento, CA, Ryan Underhill and Aaron Underhill, both of Okeechobee; granddaughters, Jennifer Hulett of Fort Lauderdale and Jenica Flippo of Orlando; great grandson, Adian Chilcutt of Sacramento, CA; great granddaughters, Haylie Underhill oi Okeechooee and Isabella Chilcutt of Sacramento, CA; and three sisters, Marion (Gene) Moran of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, Gula Gillis of Rockledge, Florida and Heidi Hochtritt of Okeechobee. The family will receive friends at Buxton Funeral Home in Okeechobee, on Saturday, May 8, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. until the ceremony at 4:00 p.m. to Celebrate Her Lite, In Dorthe's honor, many of her works of art will be on display for this celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may he made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Florida 34973. All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home.

      Dorthe Trummer Becomes Bride of Booth Chilcutt

      Announcement is made today by Mrs. Pearl E. Trummer, 1911 Keves ave., of the marriage of her daughter, Dorthe, Chicago, to Booth Chilcutt, son of Mrs. Olive Chilcutt, San Diego, Calif. The ceremony took place Feb. 14 in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kleinert of Madison were the attendants.

      Mrs. Chilcutt was graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. Active in campus affairs, she was a member of Phi Omega Pi, Sigma Lambda, Delta Phi Delta, Castalia, and Wisconsin Players. She has been employed as a commercial artist and art director for the De Vry corp. in Chicago. Mr. Chilcutt is in service with the United States navy and is at present on duty at the navy recruiting station in Chicago.
