      OBITUARIES

      Register-Guard, The (Eugene, OR) - Monday, August 22, 2011

      A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield for Max James Groesbeck of Eugene, who died Aug. 17 of age-related causes. He was 84.

      He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Harlan, Iowa, to Max and Marjorie Thogerson Groesbeck. He married Leona Foltz on July 17, 1947, in Jordan.

      He attended Stayton High School and graduated from Albany High School. He worked at Rosboro Lumber Company.

      Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dianne Foglesong of Longview, Wash., and Linda Lake of Salem; a brother, Kenneth of Wendal, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Ehry of Dundee; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

      Burial will be in Jordan. Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Springfield. Remembrances to St. Alice Catholic Church.

      Marjorie A. Greosbeck
      Nov. 29, 1907 - March 6, 1996

      LEBANON -- Marjorie Groesbeck, 88, died Wednesday.

      Born and educated in Iowa, she lived in Oklahoma, Tangent, Albany, Stayton and Salem before returning to Albany in 1945. She had operated auction markets in Stayton and Albany and later served as a clerk for auctions throughout the valley. In 1951, she moved to Corvallis but again returned to Albany, where she operated Albany Trading Post until 1968 and then worked as a cook for Waverly Guest Home. She eventually settled in Lebanon. Her hobbies included cooking and gardening. She was a longtime member of Linn-Benton Community College's "Write Your Life" class.

      Her husband Max, died in 1961.

      Survivors include sons, Jim of Eugene, Kenneth of Wendel, Calif., Richard of Jefferson and Thomas of Othello, Wash.; daughters, Virginia Schepp of Vale and Marjorie Ehry of Dundee; brother, Raymoond Thogersen of Sodaville; sisters, Mena Burmuster, Elnor Bramer and Francis Wigness, all of Harlan, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

      Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Faith Lutheran Church, Albany, where she was a charter member. Contributions: the church.
