CHALFANT, M.D.--In Santa Rosa, May 23, 1976. Dr. George O. Chalfant was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, March 17, 1900. He received his primary and secondary education in the public schools of West Chester, Pennsylvania and his premedical and medical education in Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelhia.
After an internmanship at Genese Hospital in Rochester, New York he did industrial practice at Binghampton, New York for 2 years and general practice in Suburban Philadelphia for 3 years. He then spent a year of post graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Lukes Hospital in San Francisco.
He was on the attending staff of Mary's Help Hospital and the associate staff of St. Josephs Hospital for many years and the Obstetrics and Gynecology staff of St Lukes Hospital from 1944 until he retired from medicine in 1960 leaving his practice in the hands of his partner, Dr. Paul J. Shively. Since then he has lived in Santa Rosa in semiretirement. At the time of his demise, D. Chalfant was a retired member of the San Francisco Medical Society, Calif. Medical Association and American Medical Association, a life fellow of the American Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an honorary member of the staff of St. Lukes Hospital in San Francisco.
Dr. Chalfant is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Jeanette C. Hinton of Santa Rosa, and survived by his sons John A. Chalfant of Washington, D.C. and George O. Chalfant, Jr. of Ukiah, brother Dr. Harold L. Chalfant of West Chester, Pennsylvania and sisters Ethel Uhlenberg of Carmel, Florence Smith of San Francisco, Margie Johanssen of Millbrae, Ida Smith of Foster City and grandchildren Paul and Laura Hinton and John George Chalfant.
Friends may call at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1222 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa on Tuesday, May 25, 1976 from 7:30 p.m. til 9 p.m. Private family interment. Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
