      Obituary
      Mary E. LaFave
      Mary Elizabeth Stebbins LaFave, formerly of Watertown and Duck Cove Rd., Hammond, NY passed away on Dec. 4th 2014 at the age of 84. Mary died peacefully at her daughter?s home in Rochester, NY under the care of her loving family and Visiting Nurse Hospice.

      Born on July 7, 1930 in Watertown, NY daughter of William and Marie Stebbins, she attended St. Patrick?s School and graduated with honors from Immaculate Heart Academy. She married Frederick LaFave on May 29, 1948 at St. Patrick?s Church with Monsignor John Plunkett officiating.

      Mrs. LaFave worked at NY Telephone Company as a switchboard operator before going to Fort Drum where she worked for the US Dept. of Army as a purchasing agent in the contracting office, retiring in 1988.

      She was past president and member of the American Legion, VFW, Alexandria Bay Senior Citizens Club, St. Cyril?s Alter & Rosary Society, Alexandria Bay Homemakers, and River Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed being a member of the church choir and volunteering at church and Hospice.

      Mary is survived by her sons James and Sharon LaFave, Joseph LaFave and his partner Patricia Stevens, Paul LaFave and his partner Lisa McDonald, daughters, Ann LaFave, Patricia LaFave-Williams, Ruth and Howard (Chip) Smothers, Karen and Richard Lee, Dorothy Derrigo, Linda and Gary Guthrie, Susanne and Thomas Scheg, 30 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 2 great-great children and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

      Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Frederick LaFave,brother, William Stebbins, daughter and son-in law Sharon and Bruce Graban, daughter, Joan Bennett, and grandson Michael LaFave.

      Family and friends are welcome to call Friday, December 12th, 7 to 9 pm, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown, NY

      A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 13th, 10:00 am at St. Patrick?s Church on Arsenal/Massey ST. Entombment will take place at the convenience of the family at Glenwood Mausoleum.

      MICHAEL J. LAFAVE AIRMAN, DISPATCHER

      A prayer service for Michael J. LaFave, 22, of 20849 Reasoner Road, will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Watertown, with the Rev. Mark McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown.

      Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

      Airman LaFave was found dead Oct. 2 at Fort Stuart Army Base in Georgia. The cause and date of death are still undetermined. An Air Force spokesman said today that toxicology test results are being awaited and it may be "some time" before any disclosures are made about the investigation.

      Airman LaFave had been missing since July 14, when McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., listed him as absent without leave.

      Airman LaFave, a vehicle operator and dispatcher, was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base since February 1996 and had been previously stationed at Mildenhall Air Force Base in England for 2 1/2 years.

      While at basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, he was dorm chief and his platoon was awarded the "Honor Flight."

      During his Air Force career, he received several letters of commendation, including one for guiding a congressional delegation of 40 people on the anniversary of V-E Day in England. He averted a tragedy when a truck served into his lane.

      He was awarded a Bronze Star in Kuwait and received the Air Force Achievement Medal during Operation Southern Watch in Saudi Arabia.

      Born Dec. 15, 1974, in Watertown, son of James and Sharon Fayette LaFave, Brownville, he was a 1993 graduate of General Brown Central School, Dexter, where he was on the varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse teams. In his junior year, he was voted prom king.

      He married Brandie Lynn Nichol Sept. 21, 1994, at Bury St. Edmund, England.

      Airman LaFave visited the elderly in hospitals and volunteered to help disabled children in the Special Olympics in England and New Jersey. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.

      Surviving besides his wife and parents are a sister, Lisa Wallace, Dexter; a brother, Jeffrey, at home in Brownville; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Fayette Putnam, Cape Vincent; his paternal grandmother, Mary LaFave, Alexandria Bay; his maternal great-grandmother, Flossie Smades, Watertown; a niece, a nephew, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

      LOWVILLE, N.Y. ? Joan T. Bennett, 60, of 5590 River St., Lowville, passed Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Utica.

      Born Oct. 12, 1952, in Watertown, a daughter of Frederick and Mary Stebbins LaFave, she graduated from Watertown High School.

      She married Charles Bennett and was a homemaker.

      Mrs. Bennett was a health aid in Watertown for a few years.

      She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

      Surviving besides her husband are her mother, Mary LaFave, Rochester; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles W. Bennett, Dexter, and Timothy A. and Katie A. Bennett, Lowville; a grandson, Aaron Young; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph LaFave, Watertown, Paul LaFave, Hammond, James and Sharon LaFave, Brownville; seven sisters and four brothers-in-law, Ruth and Howard Smothers, Patricia LaFave, Susanne and Thomas Scheg, all of Rochester, Karen and Richard Lee, Watertown, Ann LaFave, Chaumont, Dorothy Derrigo, Brownville, Linda and Gary Guthrie, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
