Rites Set Today For Mrs. Dooer, Resident of Avon

AVON, Oct. 3--One of the oldest married couples in Avon, Mr. and Mrs. Herman A. Dooer of Oak Street, were separated by death Friday, (Oct. 1, 1954) by the death of Mrs. Dooer, who was 90 years of age April 13. Her husband was 91 on Sept. 16.

Early Friday morning, Mrs. Dooer fell at her home and fractured a hip, She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where her death occurred occurred at 6:45 that evening.

Funeral services will be held from the mortuary chapel of T. V. Stephenson & Son, Lacy Street, Avon, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, the Rev. Ed ward Stokesberry, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Herman A. Dooer; two nieces, Mrs. George B. Day of New York City, and Mrs. A. E. Sagcr of Marine City, Mich; and one nephew, Harry D. Carman of Jonesville, Mich.

She was Frances, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Sackctt Lacy, and was born in Canawaugus, town of Caledonia, on April 13, 1864. She was a year old when, her father purchased a farm in East Main Street, Avon, and moved to this town. She liked to recall that her father frequently told that when the family were being driven to Avon to their new home that a neighbor, driving home from this village, stopped them, and said that news had just come in over the telegraph, that President Lincoln had been assassinated in Washington.

She attended old Avon Academy, later being renamed Avon Union School, and later attended a young woman's school, "Summerville", in St. Clair, Mich. For many years she was prominent in the social and church life of the village. She united with Avon Central Presbyterian Church on Sept. 30, 1886, a church in which her parents were early members. Two years ago, she was presented a 50 years certificate from Central Church.

On Nov. 10, 1910, she was married to Mr. Dooer, at the Lacy home in East Main Street, by the Rev. Samuel Wilson Steele, D.D., and they have since made their home in Avon.
