      J. Harvey Sackett

      SACKETT, J. HARVEY Of Rocky River, OH, aged 96, died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Rocky River. He was born on November 1, 1906 in Lorain, OH, the son of Burton and Donnie (Moulton) Sackett. He attended Oberlin College in Ohio, then for the next four years he worked on the Great Lakes ore boats. Completing his education at Michigan State University, he graduated with a Chemistry Degree. While at Michigan State, he met Gladys A. (McCloy) Milner and were married on May 22, 1937 and she preceded him in death on December 20, 1992. His first employment was with Great Lakes Ore Company then with Central Paper Co. in Muskegon, in charge of electrical and generation equipment. Then in 1939, he went to work for Lansing Board of Water and Light and worked there until retirement. Favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing in the Upper Peninsula, playing handball at the YMCA in Lansing, spending summers on Lake Kabenung in Ontario, woodworking, antiques and making his own wine. Also life member of the Masonic Lodge No. 33 in Lansing. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth L. Barber and Eva Lee Sackett. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, great- nieces and nephews and great- great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, 424 E. Main St., Stockbridge. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Starr Commonwealth Schools in Albion or the charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. www.MLive.com/obits
