    • From Find A Grave Memorial # 94574168:

      Jean Adele Kavanaugh DeMouthe

      Birth: Jan. 12, 1922
      Death: Aug. 1, 2011

JEAN ADELE DEMOUTHE, resident of Cupertino. We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our dear mother Jean. After successful hip-replacement surgery, Mom was pain-free and making plans for the future when an aggressive sarcoma was discovered on her leg. She underwent surgery at Stanford Medical Center, but could not "bounce back" as she always had. Under hospice care, she returned to the home she loved on Montebello Ridge and passed away peacefully with her three children holding her hands. Born Jean Kavanaugh in 1922, she graduated from Boonton High School in Boonton, New Jersey. Jean attended UCLA and then secretarial school in New York, and worked for the McCarty Company, an advertising firm. After World War II she worked at Reaction Motors, where she met her husband-to-be, Frank DeMouthe. They were married in 1947 and Jean became a full-time mom when their first child arrived. The family moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1958, and Frank worked at Lockheed Missiles Space Corporation until his retirement. Once the youngest of the three children was in high school, Jean re-entered the workforce, first at Lockheed and then at the Cupertino Unified School District office until she too retired. In the late 1970s, Jean and Frank designed and built their dream house on Montebello Road, and there they found a unique and welcoming community of friends and neighbors. Mom never thought she was anything special#8212;but she was always the one to bake the cupcakes for school, sew the Halloween costumes from scratch, lead the scout troops, organize the neighborhood events, run the household, cater memorable holiday parties virtually single-handed, and volunteer countless hours of her time, skills, care, and energy. She loved to travel, read, sew, crochet, garden, and watch the wildlife on the mountain. A longtime member of the California Native Plant Society, she loved to explore nature, learn new things, and share her discoveries. Her braided rugs won awards and her home-canned applesauce and cabernet grape jellies were sought-after treats at the annual Sunnyvale Community Services bazaar. Jean had the gifts of humor, creativity, honesty, and kindness#8212;she was special indeed and we will miss her so much. Internment will be private, but a celebration of her life will be planned at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Stevens Creek Volunteer Fire Department or to Sunnyvale Community Services.
