  • Notes
    • of East Greenwich, Conn., and Fayette County, Penn.

Dr. Sacket began the practice of his profession as a physician and surgeon in the Revolutionary Army. In 1781 he was at Uniontown, Fayette County, Penn., and seven years later settled permanently at Morgantown, in same county. He was a farmer as well as a physician, and the farm he then lived on was at a recent date in the possession of one of his descendants.

Weygant uses the spelling "Sacket" for Dr. Samuel. However, letters in the Yuma Territorial Prison Museum, Yuma, AZ. show that he signed his name as "Sackett."

"Fayette County's medical history practically begins with Dr. Samuel Sackett, who was a surgeon in the Revolution, and came to Beesontown, the later Uniontown, in the month of September, 1781, as the war was closing. He was in Uniontown from 1781 to 1788, and them removed to his farm at George's Creek, but he continued to practice mecicine for about forty years, and until his death in 1833. One of his daughters, Sally Sackett, married the noted Dr. Lewis Marchand. Following Dr. Sackett came Dr. Henry Chapese, about 1790. ..."
