Former Policeman of Blue Mound Dies
Asa Sackett, 73, former night policeman in Blue Mound, died at 8:15 p. m., Tuesday in St. Mary's hospital where he had been ill since last June. For the last nine years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Thompson, 1322 North Monroe street.
Mr. Sackett was born in Pike county, Dec. 17, 1861 and came to Macon county 58 years ago. He married Miss Mary Ribelin in Blue Mound. She died in 1921. For 15 years Mr. Sackett was on the Blue Mound police force.
He leaves a son Alva Sackett in Blue Mound and a daughter. Mrs. Ethel Thompson, Decatur. There are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He also leaves three brothers, Harry and John Sackett, both of Barry, and William Sackett in Missouri. A sister Mrs. Susie Myers lives in Barry. The body was taken to the Moran & Sons funeral home. Services probably will be held Thursday and burial will be in Blue Mound.
