CHIDESTER, Erastus
[Husband of Lydia nee SACKETT]
ca 1789 to 10 Mar 1866; age 77y
Died in Rivoli, Mercer County, Ill., on the 10th of March, 1866, Erastus
Chidester, in the 77th year of his age

emigrated to Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio, with the rest of his father's
family. He was married to Lydia Sackett, of Warren County with whom he lived
happily until his decease. They became the parents of seven children, two of
them died in infancy, one lived to adult age and died in the blessed hope of

a united christian family, to surround his bed while he took his dismission
from the church militant to join the church triumphant. The writer of this
notice was intimately acquainted with the subject of it from a child and knew
him to be a person of correct, sober habits in his youth. He early became
hopefully pious and united with the Congregational church in Canfield, and
remained a beloved member of the same several years, when, on account of some
conscientious scruples, he was led to transfer his relation to the Methodist
Episcopal Church, in which he lived a worthy, devoted member until he removed
to Illinois about two years since. As to his moral and christian character,
he was considered by all who were acquainted with him as being "without
spot." He always manifested a spirit of liberality towards other christian
denominations. He was evidently a man of faith and prayer. "Blessed are
