Zube Passed Away at 6:00 P.M.
Mitchell may live
"We are lost"
Believing that he and his companion were doomed to inevitable death. Charles Mitchell expressed his terror in the forgoing exclamation as the two men fell from a swinging scaffolding and the ground below a distance of nearly 75 feet.
The dreadful accident occurred at Jefferson Avenue and Rivard Street, at 8:45 O-clock yesterday morning. Mitchell who is 61 years of age and lives at 609 Twenty-third street and Julius Zube aged 43 years, whose family home is at 42 Arndt Street, were employed by Geraring Brothers LTD contractors.
They had been at work on the wall of the fifth floor about an hour when according to Mr. J. V. Gearing the scaffolding worked loss in some manner one end fell and the men were falling through space almost before they could appreciate their flight. It is said that Zube over to the side of the scaffolding where Mitchell was standing in order to climb into a window and the combined weight of the men proved too great a strain for the support.
The injured men were unconscious when pick up from the first the condition of Zube was considered hopeless. His pelvis and two ribs were fractured and he was injured internally. He passed away without having regained his senses at 6-o clock last evening. A widow and six children survive him.
It appears that Mitchell will recover. Several of his ribs and one ankle were fractured, but after he was carried with Zube from Boyd's ambulance into St. Mary's Hospital he opened his eyes and talked about his frightful experience.
Coroner Forth will hold an inquest in the Zube case Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and this morning at Malburg's morgue 590 Gratiot Avenue, the county physicians will conduct a post mortem
