      Funeral Set For Widow Of Founder Of Marine Bank

      Marine City, Oct. 8--Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet L. Carman, 91, who died Tuesday in New York, will held at 2 p.m. Friday.

      Rev. William Hall, rector cf St. Mark's Episcopal church. will officiate and burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

      Mrs. Carman was widow of George W. Carman, founder of Marine Savings Bank, who died Nov. 9, 19I8. She has lived in Marine City since 1984.

      She was born in Caledonia. N. Y., June 13, 1856.

      She is survived by two dauzhters, Mrs. A. E. Sager, Marine City, Mrs. George Day, N. Y., two sons, W. S. Carman. Marine City, and Harry Carman, Jonesville, Mich, and one sister, Mrs. Herman Dooer, N. Y.

      Mrs. Carman was a member of St Mark's church, a member of Marine City Study club, the Tuesday Musical society, a life member of Emily Ward chapter No, 205, OES, and a charter member of Ladies Library association.

      JOSEPH G CARMAN, son of Joseph and Mina Leete Carman - she a native of Connecticut and he of Eastern New York was born in Greene County NY May 1 1819. He came to Macomb September 15 1853, lived in Romeo a short time, and settled in Memphis in 1854 as a farmer near the village. He was married September 15 1846 to Susan Louisa Gould of Essex County NJ. She was born in January 1819 & they had 5 sons only one of whom survived. Mrs Carman died November 4 1850.

      George W was born in New York August 28 1852 lived at home except 3 years which he spent in lake survey until his marriage October 25 1870 to Harriet H Lacy of New York State Livingston County born June 18 1850. They have 2 children: Ruth born July 23 1877 and Francis L born August 19 1880. Mr George W Carman was Treasurer of the township of Richmond 2 years and was Postmaster of the village same time. The mother of Joseph Carman Mina Leete is a direct descendant of Gov William Leete of Guilford Conn who was Governor of Connecticut previous to 1683. The Carman's were descended from 2 brothers who came from England in 1631 and settled at Roxbury, Mass.
