  • Notes
    • Source: An autobiography written in 1931 by Cassius Morell Sackett, son of William Webster Sackett, which states:
"Grandfather Sackett was from England. Two brothers came over and being of the Quaker belief, one located in Pennsylvania and the other at a place called Sackett's Harbor, and married a girl from Scotland named Elizabeth Grey, a sister to Billy Grey, the richest man at the time in Boston, and who since became a millionaire. They moved from there to Franklin Township, where their three boys were born, named Aron Ezekial, William Webster, and Nathaniel Baldwin, all very short and pretty names, whether the boys were or not."
      Notes:
      1. It is curious that Cassius gives the name of his grandmother but not his grandfather's given name.
2.. The location of Franklin Township is uncertain.

Although Cassius says that his grandfather Sackett came from England, this should not be considered to be conclusive. The 1880 census gives the birth place of Nathaniel B. Sackett's father as MA while the census for William W. Sackett says that his father was born in NY. As for his grandfather locating in Sacketts Harbor, that is an erroneous claim made by many Sackett descendants.

According to some researchers, the parents of William W. Sackett and Nathaniel B. Sackett were a Nathaniel Baldwin Sackett, m. 9 Oct 1799, Polly Odell, in Massachusetts. Other than the statement of Cassius that his grandmother was Elizabeth Grey; the greatest problem I have encountered relating to the elder Nathaniel/Nathaniel Baldwin Sackett is the absence of his household in any of the census indices I have found for the census years following the alledged marriage to Polly Odell. - [Thurmon King]
