Graveside service for Mrs. Thomas C. Borden, 94, pioneer settler of Long Beach, were held Friday afternoon in Sunnyside Cemetery by officers of the Long Beach Parlor, Native Daughters of the Golden West, of which group she was a charter member.

Mrs. Borden was born at San Luis Obispo and came with her husband to Rancho Los Cerritos in 1880. They built the first house on the site of Long Beach at what is now the Security-First National Bank Building. It was the only habitation, aside from sheepherders' huts, between Los Cerritos ranch house and the ocean. The Borden family home was at Downey. They later lived or several years at 226 E. 10th St.

Mrs. Borden had made her home with he daughter, Mrs. Ida Kennedy, at San Diego for the past few years and died there July 21. Service was held in the Lewis Colonial Mortuary chapel, San Diego.

Surviving are two sons, Maj. Archibald D. Borden, formerly captain of old Company H of the National Guard here, and now residing in Whittier, and Thomas C. Borden, Jr., of Cornoa; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Ware of Heber, Calif.; Mrs. Kennedy; Mrs. Tillie Wilsie, San Diego; and Mrs. Jo Wilhite, Whittier.
