Notes |
- The only Sumner Parmenter I could find in the 1880 census index at the LDS FamilySearch web site is a man much older and has a different wife than the one man listed by Deloris Schwarz. However, I did find the listing below which is the right person [Thurmon King]:
------
1880 Census; Plum Creek, Pawnee, Nebraska
Family History Library Film: 1254753; NA Film Number: T9-0753
Page Number: 35C
Hermen[sic]* E. PARMENTER, Self M Male W 31 IL Farmer MI IL [Sumner]
Mary E. PARMENTER, Wife M Female W 26 IA Keeping House IN OH
Geo. W. PARMENTER, Son S Male W 3M NE At Home IL IA [b. Apr]
------
The 1900 census makes it evident that Sumner and Mare E. had separated but listed themselves as Widowed. The question would be, which household were the children actually in?

*"The "Herman" you found is one whose name is written over and Sumner's great granddaughter thinks it is Sumner and was misinterpreted by the person doing the indexing. In any case it is the right family. It isn't reflected in the genealogy but this Sumner deserted his family and left Mary (Molly) to raise a large family by herself. The great granddaughter that I mentioned before, tells me that the children spent a lot of time with George and Aner Scott. We have found Mary Parmenter and children living in Jasper Co., MO in 1900. We believe that George and Aner had died before that and some family members have said they died in Cherokee Co., Kansas (just across the state line from Jasper Co., MO)." - {Deloris Schwarz]

Bozeman, May 8. Death yesterday claimed two of Bozeman's old and respected residents when Sumner K.
