Nathan Alling, 2d, and his son Nathan, 3d, lived in the north part of Hamden, and are buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. About a century ago the children all changed the seplling of their name from Alling to Allen, to which their descendants have conformed except Merit, a son of Nathan, 3d, who reverted to Alling. - [Alling - Allen Genealogical Record, p261]
